You beary be ready.

As Naegi digs through the past of all the students, various hints are spread throughout. The first time watching this, I didn’t really connect the reasoning behind Monokuma’s sudden action to disconnect the video. I thought it was just coincidence. As such, watching it a second time made me appreciate the little bit hidden there. As for Kirigiri and her father’s relationship, it’s a bit more expanded upon, but with how Kirigiri keeps things to herself most of the time, it’s not like the scene would make anyone emotional. The key hints are Togami’s findings that Mukuro has no wounds, and Naegi finding the part about there being “two despairs.” As for why that is the reason they survived is still unknown. It probably has to do with the reason why they were all brought there in the first place.

Asahina Aoi

No shit.

Yasuhiro Hagakure

Bro. Come on. Open your mind a little.

Obviously, the pictures are real, and I don’t know why they are struggling with the fact that they are not in the picture. It’s put by the mastermind and it’s obviously used to confuse them. Heck, if they are there are only sixteen people in the high school, then obviously one person would be missing from the damn picture because someone had to take the picture. I think the most despairing thing about the episode except the last part has to be just how damn useless Hagakure is. Jesus, he needs to just… STAHP.

Yep. We all knew that.

-___-  Real help guys.

Dat actual blood.

Dude, did this guy suddenly turn into a genius?

Oh gawd.

Don’t even try it you derp.

Kirigiri Kyouko

Still hawt.

I’m also sure that everyone knows that they have amnesia. That is probably the most obvious fact ever to us viewers as it has been hinted on time and time again. However, the unraveling of the events leading up to the mysterious death is very creative. The idea of recycling the bodies is something I never thought of and is something I must give credit to the creator for. Though, at this point, everyone else is just being totally shocked by Naegi who at this point must be surpassing 200 IQ with how fast he’s delivering these fatal blows. But wait, this isn’t even the best part. The real plot twist is something that I really did not expect.

Junko enoshima mastermind

WELL. THAT’S THE MASTERMIND. What could be a better mastermind than a student that was with everyone in the first place? After all, only sixteen people were allowed into the school from the beginning anyways. The idea of using her twin, twisting her memories and making everyone play along is certainly a complex mystery that Naegi with his IQ now surpassing 400 is able to solve without the assistance of anyone else. Is it shocking? Hell yes it is, but I’ll go over why it didn’t have as big of an impact is it could have in the review section. Now that the mastermind has finally been revealed, I suppose they have to solve whole reason why they are in this school in the first place? If that’s the case, hopefully that’s when Kirigiri will shine because she didn’t say anything for someone who’s supposed to be the Super Duper Detective.

Danganronpa – The Animation Episode 12 Review

I’m just going to say this right off the bat. The mystery itself, that is, the fact that Enoshima Junko’s the mastermind is definitely a very nice twist. However, the execution is not necessarily as good as I would have liked it to be. This is coming from an anime-only viewer by the way. The major problem I have is the fact that Naegi did absolutely everything in this episode. Not just that, but he did it with such speed that no one else had a chance to get some suspicions in. Isn’t this the final trial? Shouldn’t Naegi put the pieces of the puzzle that are the other people’s take on the situation together to make the final judgment? What happened to Kirigiri this episode? She really did nothing even though she has been scrambling around, trying to find clues to everything. What has that amounted to in this episode?

Still, I guess in the next episode we’ll get to see Kirigiri’s take on the overall situation. I understand that it’s difficult to make things work in an anime because when you’re playing the game, you’re the one in control. You struggle, and try to find out the answer behind everything at your own pace. In an anime, it’s not like it’s going to pause and think because it doesn’t have the time to really do that. I just want it to be padded out a bit more with less of a direct answer by Naegi every single damn time. He needs to get his ideas mixed up, be contradicted by Togami or Kirigiri, and then bring up a gradual solution with everyone struggling to find an answer. Here, we’re just getting bombarded by revelation after revelation that are all correct. Even if the producers obviously know all answers, it doesn’t mean that they have to do a speed run of this last part just because they do.

I know I’m being harsh about this, but this is supposed to be the climax of the series, and I can’t say I am Super Duper Impressed. Don’t get be wrong, I really like how Junko turned out to be the actual mastermind. The source material must have been pretty good. Also, I must say that I didn’t really feel despair as much as excitement at Junko’s appearance. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though. Agh, I don’t know. I have been doing this series the whole way through and there’s just something with this series that doesn’t click with me. It’s definitely not terrible. However, to me, it’s just at this average level that really doesn’t go any higher to make me say that “this is a great show.” I’m still a bit confounded as to why I feel that way myself, so maybe I’ll know once I do the general review. For now, I’ll just say that the mastermind being Junko is a startling plot twist that I can appreciate, but the execution of the revelation isn’t as great as it could have been.

For the record, Enoshina Junko has 6 personalities. Tell me which you like best after next episode. I like the intellectual one best (shown in this episode as well)

In the game, everything is done by Naegi as well. Only exception is that Monokuma have a VERY passive role and allow the students to do their own investigations without much provocation.

This episode was made in the premise of revealing the mastermind, hence the hints are much more obvious. In the game, the ONLY hint that Junko is mastermind is the multiple stab wounds on the corpse.

I highly recommend to watch the final trial on YouTube. No more spoilers from this point as everything will be revealed by Junko herself.

    • Ian Anthony

That would be, first the Qjou-sama one (with the crown), the intellectual one (wearing eyeglasses), the pretentious one (posing is great btw), the hardcore one (rock and roll hand sign), kawaii Imouto type (you’ll see it when you do), despair one (lol, with the mushroom on the head).

      • SHSL

Man, I forgot about the Monokuma persona. So there’s 7.

Alright, I’ll go check out the final trial on Youtube in the next few days.

      Huh, 6 personalities eh? That’s pretty interesting…

      • Wiscy

The games version of the final trial is over 3 hours long also, so some serious perspective for episode 12/13.

  • SHSL

And I just noticed. That picture is of my Best Girl!!!!! She is Nanami Chiaki, the SHSL Gamer. Main heroine of Super Danganronpa 2. Better than Chihiro, better than Kirigiri, I assure you.

    • http://youtube.com/user/JumpingLogans Gamematio

… as for character creativity and complexity … Kirigiri is best, I think people overrate Chiaki a lot, ok yeah she’s awesome and amazing but … where is the creativity and mastery that we’ve been shown in the beginning in that … anyone can come up with a SHSL Gamer and make it good, now … a mysterious Detective … gotta think. also … there’s a big mystery behind Chikai which is actually what got me into loving the character (Yeh, I love her, though I Super Love Kirigiri).

As for the heroine term … I like your way of thinking xD

    • http://youtube.com/user/JumpingLogans Gamematio

Lets just say that SDR2 is full of plot twist and secrets xD

Sorry for the multiple posts. But with regards to Kirigiri’s lack of action, this is another mistake by the anime.

Kirigiri’s purpose to meet the headmaster, her father, is to cut off all ties with him. Typical family pressure of pushing her towards being the top detective of her family (they are all detectives). She wanted to free herself from her family, hence entering the school. The anime simply states that she wants to meet her father, but never stated the reason.

Thus she was shocked when her father set her name as the password. She tried for hours previously. Her father’s bones is not that much of a shock as she expected him dead. But the next wave came from the picture. As typical again, she did not think that her father cared about her at all.

This deters her from doing any more investigations on her own. Though it is planned for Naegi to do everything in the final trial anyways, for reason that will be revealed later.

Kirigiri is more “emotionless” in the anime. She’s more vocal in her words in the game. Though sadly, it’s all Naegi vs Junko from now on.

:/ I kind of wanted the other characters to have the spotlight too. I understand if it’s that way in the game, but anime-wise, I think it makes more sense to have it a bit more spread around. Oh well, thanks for clearing things up.

      • http://youtube.com/user/JumpingLogans Gamematio

Ha ha, yeah, I actually wanted that as well also … the anime isn’t half bad it’s just that I think, that for making an anime like Dangan Ronpa … so that it will be perfectly made … you need more than 12 or 13 episodes … I mean, where are the fun stuff like in the game, maybe they could of have (not all of them, just the fun ones) Free time events like in the game … just a few like … 3 or so, the anime is based on a game, it’s harder than what people think

  • Yuniikorn

In the beginning of the anime where you first meet the Junko you’ve known has been Mukuro. Mukuro loved Junko and would do anything to help her, Junko thought differently and used her as a tool when necessary even if it meant killing her to show that if you attack Monobear, you die. That is also a reason why she was questioning what is happening when Mukuro dies.

    • SHSL

If my memory was right, Junko told Mukuro to attack Monokuma. Mukuro will then be captured and locked away somewhere, thereafter will be two people behind the scenes. However, at the very last moment, Junko chose to execute her sister as it will bring more despair to the both of them. And shock factor to the students.

I actually figured this out by myself through out the whole story, re-watching all the episodes and paying close attention to the things around like objects and such, also, I expect a lot from the last episode because I played the game and my favorite part is the graduation, also you can see how the main plot changed forms in a very good and not noticeable way.

Favorite anime of this season with SNK on second and well I gotta say, it’s been a good season with all the anime released being quite good and well yeah.

Next week, every or almost every anime of this season ends (August – September) so … it’s gonna be a really epic weekend xD

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

Honestly, this season is weaker than I thought. The next season, however, is going to be absolutely insane. Working on the preview as I speak, should be out in 24 hours.

      • http://youtube.com/user/JumpingLogans Gamematio

lol, I got into anime recently so … I got almost nothing to compare it to so … I guess you have a valid point xD

      • Wiscy

I would say I enjoyed Genshiken, Danganronpa, and TWGOK, but not to much for any of them and they all had problems.
The sales numbers support “GOD AWFUL season” for sure though. Almost everything but Attack on Titan tanked badly, with a few shows like Danganronpa doing “alright”.

  • Crazycolorz5

That foreshadowing in episode 2. Where she says she’s different than she looks in the magazines. Woooow.

  • Eerie Code

Alright, two questions for this episode.

    1. In the first classroom photo, isn’t that Genocider Syo? If she has been stalking Togami for two years, how did he manage to survive this long!?

    2. So, there are nine freezer compartments, one for every corpse. Does that mean one of them contains the butter?

    • SHSL

      1. Umm she liked him? They are classmates? I do not know which photo you are referring to, but Sho always has her tongue out. She loves Togami so much that she is willing to be his slave. I don’t think she will kill him. Further rejection turns her even more on imo

      2. Theoretically, although turning into butter is a bit too much itself, high velocity + extreme heat + centrifugal force will turn the body into liquid. Skin, and especially bones, would not have turn into liquid. Thus, Mondo’s chamber should contain a skeleton.

  • Kassiopea Millenia

Actually Mukuro was helping her sister. Her memorie weren’t deleted. This not even the first time she dresses as Junko.
In fact you should play dangan ronpa, super danganronpa and and read the novel (dangan ronpa zero) to fully understand every mistery, But, again, they must do a half-baked anime like they did with umineko only cuz it’s popular in that moment of time and space.
