“Total Angel Ayase-tan Can’t Descend On My Place Where I Live Alone”
“Maji Tenshisugiru Ayase-tan ga Hitorigurashi no Orenchi ni Kōrin Suru Wake ga Nai”

Firm on their resolve, Ayase and Kyousuke both find the will to determine what they have their sights on and what they have to do to be true to themselves. The both of them, along with the cast of other female characters certainly makes me realize just how big a harem this actually is make this an enjoyable episode. But while Ayase’s arc is enjoyable, it just ends a bit too quickly.

Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai. (Oreimo) Season 2 Episode 12 Impressions

Normal way of dress??

Oreimo kuroneko gokou ruri

More moe pls.

:O But… But she’s your friend…

Saoooooriiiii! Wow, she actually made an appearance for once, and in her “normal” form to be precise. That already makes me forgive all of her missing appearances… Wait a second, even Kuroneko and Manami are there so that makes it even more awesome. Could… Could it be that everyone is actually gathering for once like I always wanted??

Tamura Manami

Lol. You know what’s going on.

Kousaka Kirino

Makishima Saori introduction

MONEYZ. Nah. That’s got to be looks.

I still have no idea why Kirino despises Manami so much. Maybe it’s because she acts like a mother to Kyousuke and she doesn’t like that? Eh, but damn, it’s nice to see them gather for once, and not just the Kirino, Kuroneko, Kyousuke and Saori group, but even the others. And as the girls start rushing in… I think a few of you may now fully realize just how much of a harem Oreimo actually is. Seriously, the only male character got the spotlight by having his name mentioned regarding perverted figures. That’s it. I have to say that Oreimo hides this fact pretty nicely as I don’t really notice it a lot of the time. Maybe it’s because we haven’t seen all of them gathered here like we do now.

Whoa so mad.

Oreimo ayase kirino season 2

Ore no imouto jealousy rage kirino ayase

U mad?

Death wish.

Kyousuke kicked in the face

For Kyousuke that is.

Hell. Fucking. Yeah. Ayase and Kirino seething with jealous rage and the characters interacting with each other. That’s what I wanted to see. Man, it took them long enough to put some of this on here. Well, it’s nothing that great yet. I would have expected more conflic-

Kurusu Kanako super mad

Harem growing even more.

Oh shit, tension…

Kanako Kurus fight

True dat.

Tamura Manami

Makishima Saori taking care of Kyosuke

Lololol troll.

Power of money instead of power of love.

Makishima Saori stunned

No one ever said that to her.

HELL. FUCKING. YEAH. I really like how while Kuroneko and Kanako are fighting over something, Manami butts in and pretends to be a pacifist while unwittingly (or wittingly?…) making moves to be closer with Kyousuke. I have to say that I was hoping for another imaginary battle like last time, but I guess it’s fine with all the characters interacting with each other here and there. Hell, even Saori joins the battle probably only to mess up the others even more. Ah, valuable entertainment. It feels a lot better to finally see this after so long.

Kousaka Kirino standing up for brother

Trying to compete is all.

I’m not a big fan of Kirino or anything, but she’s being a pretty amazing sister right there. That is, if she really wants Kyousuke to do well for school and not only want him back home for more personal reasons. But anyways, even if she does feel that way, she’s the one who’s stepping up for him now which is great. Of course, choosing Ayase with not that many episodes left and not much development in the past can only mean one thing. Sure, she gets some screen-time for the fans, but… well. It’s not like it could have ended up any other way and I’ll explain why in a bit.

Ayase knife multiple arms startled

Leave that to the lolicon.

Wait, what?

Kousaka Kyousuke witnesses the knife

That’ll motivate even me to do some homework.

Aragaki Ayase Yandere

Doesn’t everyone?

I was wondering in episode 2 why Ayase’s background is randomly inserted. If we take this episode and the last one into account, it does make sense. However, it still feels really choppy as the development as been kind of all over the place. Nonetheless, although I may not have liked her that much before, she kind of grew on me with her yandere side that’s not really seen in tsunderes. Her tsun moments with Kyousuke is not unwarranted with him being “a pervert, siscon, lolicon, masochist,” and so on. At least, he sexually harasses her a lot more than he does others. I can kind of see why.

Great way to start off.

Confession 101.

Just like that.

Ayase Aragaki moe cute crying

Dude, she’s not fucking around.

And all he did was sexually harass you.

Kousaka Kyousuke bring it on

Ayase Aragaki kisses Kyousuke

Knew it.

ore no imouto kiss kyousuke and ayase

Still a nice kiss on the cheek.

Oreimo aragaki ayase sayonara

Sayonara Ayase, I just started to like you too.

Ooooooooo damn. Ayase actually does confess. Well, it’s not like they could have devoted any more time to her so it’s come down to this. Let’s first go over the inevitability of Kyousuke’s rejection. There’s a few ways some would argue that Ayase could have won, but it’s actually not possible without making it seem terrible. Let’s say the author wanted Ayase to win. If that were the case, she would have gotten many more appearances instead of the few that she’s gotten throughout both seasons. If the author wanted to appease some of the fans, she would still have more appearances if she were more popular. If, however, the author does decide to make her win without more appearances, developments, and basically a realistic chance of winning, then people would just call the writing bullshit because it would be. Why would a girl that hasn’t really gone through much with Kyousuke win when Kuroneko and Kirino have? Yes, the writer could just say “screw it” and let Ayase win, but it’s unlikely for an author of a successful light novel to make such a big blunder. Though, it may have been possible with more time. I’m not saying I dislike Ayase; I’m actually liking her more now. It’s just that she didn’t have a chance of winning at all and I guess I wanted to expand on why I think that way.

Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai. (Oreimo) Season 2 Episode 12 Review

So let’s talk about the most important scene itself, the confession. I would say it’s fine. It would have been so much more if they didn’t make everything seem so rushed beforehand, but the execution isn’t bad at all and the yandere mix gives off a different vibe. As for the kiss at the end, I totally expected it, and it’s still decently done. There’s nothing exceptional about the confession or anything (it’s still pretty good though), and that’s mainly due to how rushed her development actually is. We finally got some actual meaningful screen-time between Kyousuke and Ayase only for her to rush out and confess. I know there’s a time issue, and for what they tried to do, it’s decent. It’s just that the impact would have been a lot greater had the foundation of the development been more solid. I actually came to like her more and boom. It’s done. That’s it. Confession and rejection. Feels like there’s a lot of wasted potential. What they did do, I would say that I still like it quite a bit. I’m just a bit disappointed because it could have been a lot, lot more.

We finally did get more of everyone together and interacting which I was waiting for. I wouldn’t say I’m completely satisfied, but it’s something. It’s sad that Oreimo has only done something like this once instead of multiple times. With the different characteristics and the now very apparent harem with multiple girls wanting Kyousuke, it will be marvelous to see more of them battling each other. However, since we’re closing in on the conclusion, there’s not much room for many of those which is a shame. I’m not really sure how they’re going to wrap everything up at this point so I’ll give some more guesses next time as we’ll have a better idea of how everything will end. For now, enjoy the Ayase because this is probably the last episode centered around her.

Thanks a lot! Yep, it’s quite an interesting episode. I’m actually kind of surprised you read my review before watching it haha. I always thought everyone did it the other way around. It’s actually kind of interesting some people do that. I’ll keep that in mind, and maybe I’ll even make a poll later. The results may surprise me and some others.

      • omgITSorange

Actually, that depends on whether my downloads finish before your review comes out. XD But in all honesty reading your reviews gives me a somewhat better understanding of the episode, so it doesn’t really matter to me which comes first.

  • The Atomic Dwarf

Sigh. Knew it was coming but still couldn’t help but to feel sad about it. Poor Ayase.

    Well let’s get started!

The episode feels rushed doesn’t it?

The party was pretty much Kyousuke’s private harem time with a battle over who gets to spoil him during his month away from home. It’s fun to see the interaction between all the girls and his inability to stop the conflict. What’s important comes after that and you saw it right.

The stalker! Everything related to the stalker was an important polt device for Ayase’s arc.
Why did they cut that out? If they wanted to remove that part why show the stalker in the first place?

I’m hoping we’ll get to see that in one of the extra episodes but with time being so short, I don’t think that will happen. It’s a shame because the stalker event is where we get to see their relationship develop and it’s another moment where Kyousuke gets to shine! It also provided the basis for another conflict.

Remember what i said about Mikagami and his ways a couple of eps ago? Well they axed the part where Kyousuke built the stand for those 18+ figurines he recieved as a house warming gift. Damn!

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

I heard rumors of the stalker thing being on a drama CD or something like that. I heard they cut out quite a bit of stuff, but that can’t really be helped with how it’s nearing the end. It also looks like the specials are all airing on the same day August 18th. Will be looking for the 1 hour Oreimo time :)

Fixed the link to the wallpaper. Sorry, I know I always screw that up aaaggghh. I’ll try to remember, but if I do forget you can feel free to remind me :)

      • The Atomic Dwarf

Honestly if they were going to do it like that I guess it’s ok. But showing the stalker without going into details will only make people who just watch the anime confused and the ones who read the LN angry.
It’s like a sudded soda ad in the middle of your favorite show or those pesky youtube ads. It’s only reason for being there is selling extra stuff i.e. the drama cd’s.
I’d rather see a release date for the OST’s. This last ED song was pretty good!

The extra eps will all be on August 18 eh? Gotta mark that on the calendar.
As for the wall. Don’t sweat it! It happens :)

      • latinalover

no the stalker thing actually preventing kyousuke from taking the mock test for the first time then kyousuke got hurt i think his arm was broken then a timeskip (a year) and he retake the mock test and pass it. that happens in the light novel

        • The Atomic Dwarf

I was trying to avoid spoilers man. But while you’re at it. No it’s not postponed he goes with his right hand (not his whole arm hurt) and takes the exam. That stunt is the catalyst for one last conflict between Kirino and Manami.

        • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

Well, they didn’t really show it so I’ll let this spoiler slide because it’s technically a spoiler about the past so whatever. But there must be no spoilers about what happens beyond the point so be very careful. Even these are… barely acceptable.

  • Kinza Datteri

“I still have no idea why Kirino despises Manami so much.”

As some guy who claimed to have read novels said somewhere, she is apparently someone closest to the villain in this series. I’m very curious what the hell is going on.

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

Villain in the series? Well, I certainly caught a sense of that with how she may be less innocent than I thought. Err… interesting I guess, but I have even less of an idea what’s going on now.

  • Drig

The novel fleshes this out much better than the episode does. THis episode was all over the place and simply tried to stuff too much info into one episode. Which is sad because this was one of the better volumes imo.

They removed a childhood fan. They removed a BIG part of what for me made Ayase a compelling character. They removed the part where Kyosuke helps out Ayase ( which wasn’t corny!!!!) .

This episode gets a 3/10 from me.

Manami’s actually a schemer. You’ll probably see that in the next episode.

Also, in the novels, I don’t think Kyosuke said no to Ayase. If I remember correctly, it ends with Ayase confessing to Kyosuke………I might be wrong since I read it quite some time ago and Game of Thrones is on my mind recently……

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

Yep, I heard that for anime viewers, this episode may be okay, but for LN readers, it’s not. I can totally understand why and I’ll see exactly why when I do get to read the LNs. It’s really too bad since I actually quite like this episode even with how everything is rushed out. Maybe they could do a spin-off or something haha.

YEEEH GAME OF THRONES!!! Still, a year for the fourth season. *Sigh

      • xxbabaxx

i think they chuck the main “plot” of a whole LN volume (not that plot) in one episode and just YOLO with it. Normally a season of anime is 2 LN content length. This ep seems really rushed.

        • The Atomic Dwarf

Most of the anime based on LN lately have the recipe of 1 season based on 4-6 LN volumes. It differs a lot depending on the content of the LN but they try to keep the story and pacing similar to the novels as much as possible.

Sadly it wasnt the case here especially with the last episode.

  • Juan

The stalker part is an important factor in the Light Novel. There the stalker is the one who runs the “Ayase Fan blog” and notices Ayase coming and going from Kyosuke’s appartment. This she terms as a betrayal of her fans and threatens to “expose Ayase’s secret if she doesn’t repent”

Kyosuke being a frequenter of the blog discovers it and at first leaves it to Mikigami to try and resolve through the agency. On the day of the exam however the threat becomes more serious and they discover the stalker. The two (Ayase and Kyosuke) catch the stalker who turns out to be a middle school girl who was once Ayase’s Kohai. She really respects Ayase the same way that Ayase acted towards Kirino back in volume 2.

Ayase wants to call the police on her but Kyosuke wants to try and talk things out, all the while his test is drawing nearer by the second. Ayase then bursts out “What’s more important me or your test?” “You of course!” (Kyosuke you slick bastard)

Anyway while the stalker explains her side of the story Ayase realizes that she was the same with Kirino and when she was about to tell the girl how much of an imperfect person she is Kyosuke steps in and decides to take the fall by lying to the girl and pushing all the blame onto him. Ayase realizes (or more like confirms) that it’s the same thing he did for her and Kirino.

That’s why her confession is like that. It harkens back to that Text message that she sent him when she and Kirino makes up.

Such a shame it was a really well and subtly developed pairing. More so in the LN than the Anime.

Whoa, sorry for the late reply. Totally missed this comment for some reason. Thanks a lot for summarizing what happens. It’s kind of sad that they didn’t include this as it does sound really nice. I would have appreciated the pairing even more. *Sigh. Oh well.

  • Gamematio

Even though Ayase wasn’t presented that much along the series I could see actually more chemistry in her with Kyousuke than with other characters (not gonna mention who because there will be probable haters.) And if you don’t notice it by now, and it was kind of obvious since the beginning of course Kyousuke is gonna end up with *spoiler* (it’s kind of obvious, don’t read if you can’g get a clue) Kirino. I believe the last Volume of the Manga is Vol. 12 since the last chapter of the volume is titled: “The Final Chapter” and it gots the whole “who stays with who” plot so yeah, I kind of wanted to see Ayase with Kyousuke since I just feel like she was … I don’t know, a better choice than the others, though that’s not going to happen (Unless you play the PSP which you can choose which of the girls you want to end up with *Ayase at the end is pregnat* didn’t see that coming, but of course that is only in the game.)
Sorry if I have bad English I’m Japanese.

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

I can see that the chemistry between the two is naturally easy to develop. Hell, I started liking her in a few episodes of development and some of the time she just made some short appearances. It would have been much more interesting if they expanded on their relationship more instead of inserting random episodes here and there for the first part of the season. It’s really just too bad.

  • A Guy

One of the most important motives I had for watching this anime was because of Ayase. Now shit happens and she gets rejected, *sigh* I’ve been watching some forums and people just are saying that Oreimo sucks now … I wouldn’t go to far to say that but … I just don’t feel the same about Oreimo than I did before … Well I will still watch it but not with the same feeling as I did before, a lot of people got upset, because of this whole *dating my sister* sort of thing with Kyousuke and Kirino, people just don’t want to see them together though that is what is gonna happen in the end. (A lot of people want to see Kirino with Kyousuke but a lot of people wanted to see Ayase with Kyousuke as well … I have seen about 70 post saying “This sucks now” … though I won’t go as far as to say that.)

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

I saw those kind of comments as well. I’m going to stick through until the end before judging the anime as a whole, but this season has definitely not lived up to my expectations. It doesn’t completely “suck” but it’s… it’s just not as good as it was last season.

  • http://youtube.com/user/JumpingLogans Gamematio

I feel like the creators were preparing the watchers for this confession since they like started to show a little more chemistry between the both of them most of the time Ayase appeared, I read the confession on the light novel and it was a lot more passionate, though I mean after most of the things they have been through (not much) you somewhat expected a yes, but they just want to stick to Kirino. At first when Kyousuke saw for the first time Ayase they kind of like linked, I mean Ayase understood what he did to protect Kirino and such, and the expression that Kyousuke had was kind of like … idk, he was hitting on her at first (that’s what I believe).

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

I was really hoping they would go for a different route or at least, have a bit more adversity. It’s a bit one sided and I feel a lot of it is due to the fact that the other people are unexplored. I heard that people didn’t really like the ending of the LN, so I’m curious as to how they actually do it. Well, I already got spoiled a week or so ago, but still. Eh. We’ll see I guess.

      • http://youtube.com/user/JumpingLogans Gamematio

Yup Yup Yup , didn’t like (read it in Japanese) because they I think rushed a little because boom! Kyousuke just fell in love with Kirion (deeply in-love because I believe the love that right now she feels for her is more of a sister and brotherly lover) and they just kiss, though there are about 2 posters of this at the manga and anime store that I go to, so yeah, and I think that um Kirino should not have ended with Kyousuke, I wanted to see Kyousuke try with Ayase just a bit to see how they link and all, I really don’t like Kuroneko even though people like that pair (Kuroneko and Kyousuke) I just don’t like it, it feels, stupid. (this is gonna attract probably some haters) Ayase looks more “mature” and she seriously loves Kyousuke (or atleast that is what I got out of the manga confession *more passionate than the anime one* )

  • http://youtube.com/user/JumpingLogans Gamematio

And a picture up there ^ says that Kyousuke said: “I’m sorry, I’m in love with someone else” that’s not what he said. I believe

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

Well, if you translate it exactly, it would be like “I’m sorry, there’s someone I like.” However, it’s basically the same thing as saying “I’m sorry, I’m in love with someone else.” It’ll be awkward for them to translate it exactly because of the context and the way languages work. It’s just easier on the viewers who don’t know Japanese to have this translated line rather than the first.

      • http://youtube.com/user/JumpingLogans Gamematio

I guess, I will cry when the series end, as I do with every series (I’m such a pussy) just putting the intro song will make me cry, oh and did the anime end? because the last chapter of vol.12 is titled “The Final Chapter”, but remember saying I love to someone is actually something big here in Japan, liking is not the same as love, though in this case it might be. (Actually it is) But yeah, *sigh* it has been a long run, now it’s close to saying good-bye. Indeed it was a good anime and light novel, but the writer states that he left stuff that he wanted to add on the manga but then again, the last chapter is titled “The Final Chapter” and most light novels end at 12 chapters (unless it’s Naruto and other type of non-stop manga and anime)

  • http://youtube.com/user/JumpingLogans Gamematio

How Ayase looked in her confession from the light novel:

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

At least they stayed faithful to that picture.

      • http://youtube.com/user/JumpingLogans Gamematio

Yup, but not to the text or what they say.
Ayase is suppost to say a lot of good and bad qualities about Kyousuke and then say: “But that is the Onii-chan I fell in love with” and then the same thing happened to Kuroneko, rejection, because of his little sister … Saw it coming but, I had my hopes up for nothing, at least we still have this cute picture of her hahaha

  • Ian

I felt really sad for Ayase in this episode. She doesn’t get much screentime in the series, but when she does appear she does steal the scene, and I guess it is unrealistic to expect more. I never expected her to get the man, but I never expected it would end so cruelly for her, with some great heart-to-heart sharing, some meaningful time spent together, a confession, and then .. heartbreak. I also didn’t like how Kyousuke told Kuroneko that “He wouldn’t think of it until he had resolved things with Kirino” while he tells Ayase “There’s someone else I love”. It makes it sound like Kuroneko has a chance later, while Ayase is definitely wasting her time. These last two episodes really made Ayase grow on me – especially the way she politely listened to Saori talk about her otaku stuff. You’d never see Kuroneko hold a conversation with someone about a subject which didn’t interest her. Kuroneko fits into the group of main characters because she belongs there with common interests, but Ayase makes effort to stay in there despite not liking otaku at all, simply because she cares for Kyousuke and Kirino. I really wish it could have ended differently, maybe with an OVA in the future, but at least this episode gives Ayase the respect she has always deserved.
