Like. I don’t even know how to start this shit because IT’S TOO AMAZING FOR ME. Seriously, I’m not even kidding, this is just going to be a review full of hype, crazy shit, random caps, swear words thrown around, and appreciation at the magnificence that is VALVRAVE THE LIBERATOR. Holy crap I actually cannot believe I am late for this episode of all things. We have so much to talk about that I’m sure I’ll miss something, but let’s FUCKING GET TO IT!! IT’S THE LAST EPISODE OF THIS SEASON. IT’S TIME FOR THE FINALE OF SEASON 1 FOR VALVRRAAAVVEEEE!! THIS IS WHY I DO REVIEWS. THIS IS WHY. GET HYPEEEEDDDDD!!!

Valvrave the Liberator Episode 12 (FINALE) Impressions

Shiiiiit another time skip to start the episode. Things are looking good already.

CHIBI-ERUFU!

Rukino Saki 200 years

Looking good, Saki.

Rukino Saki

SUCCESS?

THE MARK OF CAIIIIN!!

Okay. Already fucking mind blown and a million things to talk about. We have Saki, and some L-Elf look-alike talking about what’s happened in the past. This being the 211th year of the Third Galactic Empire. That’s 3 years before the last time skip in episode 7. Basically, the current time that the majority of the anime is in is currently in the year 0 of the Third Galactic Empire. We can expect the Golden 7 to completely overtake the galaxy and have such immense power that they have the timeline named after their reign.

As for the kid, it’s certainly not Haruto and Saki’s kid so don’t get all excited about that. We don’t have any confirmations on the possible vampire baby. Anyways, if L-Elf isn’t immortal, then this would be his great, great, great, (and so on) grandson or something like that if they are related to each other. I’m not sure if it would be anyone else’s kid because who else would be talking to someone who holds great power at that time like Saki otherwise? Even seeing the galaxy makes me worried about how they’re going to tie so many things together…

ROFLMAO REJECTED.

Saki talks to haruto about possession

Awww. She knows it’s consensual rape.

:(

Saki really earns respect points here. She’s understanding that Haruto is the one who is going through quite a bit of hardship himself and is willing to make a big sacrifice so he can follow how he truly feels. It’s not easy to turn away such an attractive offer, but she actually does do it! Props to her, and if she keeps this up. Damn, she’ll be pretty great by the end of the MUCH ANTICIPATED SECOND SEASON.

Sashinami Shoko crying

Sashinami Shoko sad

Of course not.

LOLOL EVERYONE DYING.

Really?

L-Elf the man who taught me everything

Oh. Shit.

Sashinami Shoko and L-Elf’s comments aside, as they are fairly unimportant in the grand scheme of things, what’s important is L-Elf’s comment about Cain. Knowing how great ERU ERUFU himself is, a lot of us thought that Cain is really being outsmarted, but apparently, that’s not the case. Being a man that taught him everything, one must now take the stance that he’s going to be a very troublesome person. Being basically a slave when he was younger, L-Elf’s strategic planning, and prophet-like abilities are garnered by him. Yes, of course a lot of it is talent, but as we soon find out, there are limitations to even the prophet ERU ERUFU.

Sigh.

Sounds good…

Seriously, there are so many things going on. Cain is able to even predict L-Elf which makes me think that. Yep, this guy is going to be the main antagonist from here on out. He’s also able to figure out the Valvraves’ weakness that is overheating. Seriously, no need for Nvidia here, those damn MANNED Waffes have finally stopped being completely useless and are actually doing something. I actually still can’t believe they threw just about a few hundred useless piloted mechs at them… Come on Cain. You can do better than that.

Annnnnnd here it comes.

Another revolution? Dammit FukuJun. No matter which anime…

AND OH YES DOES CAIN DO BETTER THAN THAT HOLY SHIT. Holy crap the tides have completely turned and even the magnificent ERU ERUFU is completely and utterly overpowered by Cain. Not just in planning, but in physical combat as well. Shit. The difference in level is the same as the gap between L-Elf and Haruto. However, it’s kind of… nice seeing that even L-Elf has vulnerabilities. It makes him feel like less of an alien and more of a human being. Well, almost everything is relative after all. But still, even A-Drei wants to create a revolution? What’s going on here? Is there some internal feud or something going on? But man, the situation has never been this dreary and we all know what that means. IT’S TIME FOR THE NEXT VALVRAVE TO SAVE THE DAY.

GG.

LAST VALVRAVE OF THE SEASON!!!

First of all, YESSSS IT’S BOKU JA NAI AGAIN!!! God, I missed this song, and I’m so glad that it’s returned at a critical time. This has got to be the most boring part of the episode. Seeing Shoko talk about friendship and Akira cry in a corner trying to muster the will to just GET OUT OF THAT ROOM is quite painful especially when we know shit is going down elsewhere. Nonetheless, IT’S TIME FOR SOME PURPLE VALVRAVE ACTION!

Valvrave VI 6 Hiasobi anime

Interesting looking Valvrave.

Hell yeah, some people suggested healing the other Valvraves, but this hacking ability is just as crazy. Being able to take over with the needed technical hacking abilities is absolutely perfect for Akira. Hell, you have to manually put in the code and stuff like that, so she’s undoubtedly the most suitable. This could be an extremely, extremely important unit in the future as it may be possible to take over other Valvraves. Although, I assume that the time it would be able to control it would be minimal. Nonetheless, being able to turn any mechanized part against its owner is extremely valuable when it comes to strategy. I’m sure L-Elf could harness the powers well and execute much more elaborate plans that way. Anyways, it looks like things are nicely settled right. HAHAHAH YEAH RIGHT THIS IS FUCKING VALVRAVE. YOU THINK IT’S JUST GOING TO END LIKE THAT? Sorry ERU ERUFU, but I expected a bit more coming from you. But hey, it’s all about perspective right? We all know that crazy shit is about to go down, but L-Elf doesn’t have a clue. Actually, we don’t have a fucking clue either because HOLY BALLS WHAT IS-

Just… floating? Hmmm…

Moreover, I think he can use these Rune’s freely, and remember, these things make the Valvrave work. Shit, it makes me feel even worse now that the almighty ERU ERUFU has been wrong multiple times this episode. But shit- This crap is ridiculous, like what the fuuuucc-

Okay, let me get this straight, that thing rocking in that cage from earlier episodes was this… alien… thing called “Blue” that’s basically the Unit 01 Valvrave girl’s brother. I’m… I’m fucking speechless. I don’t even know what the fuck to think anymore. I don’t know if these Valvrave entities are actually aliens that are not man-made or if they’re man-made. Are they created for the Valvrave mechas or are the Valvrave mechas created for them? Were they human once? Are they experiments in secret or are they randomly found by other means? How the FUCK can Cain use this so freely, and why ADOSFHSDAP8YH9P8G3RG ASDFOIJSDFPOISJFSDPODOAFJ God dammit my fucking mind is so blown right now. What the fuck is Cain? What the FUUUC-

GOD DAMMIIITTTTTTTT VALVVRRAAAVEEEEE!!!
THEY ARE… THEY ARE… MAGIUS.
Holy crap this just turned from a small scaled conflict about these important mechs to something on a universal scale. We have a huge conspiracy going on with both ARUS and Dorssia where those on the upper echelons of both sides of society are basically working together to govern all of the human world. No wonder ARUS didn’t do JACK SHIT about the situation. God dammit, everything was screwed up from the start. Shoko’s peculiar, but somewhat amazing plan never worked out to begin with. No matter where they went, no matter which side they tried to go to, they would always be cornered. Indeed, they really are their own country. They really are alone to fight against this gigantic force that they will one day overcome. FUCKING SHIIIIIIIITTTTT

Okay, before I die of excitement and talk about the preview of SEASON 2, let’s just think about JIOR and what that means for the Valvraves now. As we now know what’s happening in the shadows of society, we may not be able to think of JIOR as a truly neutral faction any longer. It’s clear that Shoko’s father, and other leaders were involved with the Magius to some extent. There are a lot of different variations in the way it could have happened, but I’ll just expand on one of them now.

It could have been the case that Shoko’s dad is a really exceptional politician that somehow got them to leave them alone, but even then, the possibilities of him not knowing anything about the Magius is low. ARUS and Dorssia probably want JIOR on their side or exterminate them if they’re not. No matter how much he knows, whether it be little or a lot, he must have found out about these Valvrave entities. Moreover, because he’s building these in secret, it must be that he wanted to overthrow them or hold some power against the Magius to one day fight against them should the time come. It could have been because he doesn’t want someone to reign over everyone like that, but it could also be because he wanted power himself. Anyways, Dorssia finds out about this and commences the operation while ARUS tries to play the part of the helpful ally while not really being that helpful at all. In the end, with all that’s happened, it’s still one country against all. It’s just that now everything is more in the open. Well, to us at least.

Next, we’ll have to talk about the second Valvrave. They did say they are the Golden 7. It could be that they’re on different sides, but it’s also likely that Unit 2 may be taken by someone else in the future. Still, there’s one more Valvrave left and we have absolutely no idea what that is. It’s probably going to be another special type that’s going to be related to the preview. I’ll explain more then, but from here on out, it looks like the Moon is going to be their next base of operations as the Module 77 is destroyed. On there, they can strengthen their knowledge of everything. Then again, getting away from Cain will be a huge pain in the ass as I’m not even sure what abilities that mysterious Valvrave holds.

The mark on Cain’s neck from before must indicate that he is part of the Magius. Saki had it in the time-skip in this episode which means that they became such themselves. It makes me wonder if these Magius are immortal or not. Cain did talk about the “third generation” so it makes me think that these Valvrave entities give birth and evolve over time. How everything works I’m still not that sure, it could be the case that the third generation isn’t the newest generation. Hell, I’m not even sure how they’re incorporating everything into their bodies. No wait, I don’t even know what the FUCK THESE VALVRAVE ENTITIES EVEN ARE, WHERE THEY CAME FROM, AND JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING ELSE ABOUT THEM. S2 S2 S2 WHEN? FUCKING FALL THAT’S WHEN. GET YOUR BODIES READY. HERE’S A DAMN PREVIEW THAT WILL MAKE YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE SKYROCKET BECAUSE OF THE INTENSE AMOUNT OF HYPE.

Valvrave the Liberator Season 2 Preview

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA SEASON 2!! I’m so sleep deprived right now. It’s like 4:20am.

Uhhhmm… So I don’t even know where to start. Everyone is developing nicely on the new planet. Looks like the Dorssians are getting mad about something. Perhaps, they’re seeing the true side of Cain and is wanting to do something about it? Saki looks like she’s making a deal with Cain with no real choice for some reason. L-Elf may be forced to go back to Dorssia maybe because his princess is being threatened? And as for the human experiment, I think Haruto got a bit crazy and desperate and wanted either the curse to end with them by experimenting on humans, or he wanted to create another Valvrave to end everything. He may have gotten misguided because L-Elf left or maybe just did that himself. He may have changed as a person as a result of what happened on Module 77 or someone else like Shoko or Saki. And that claw… that claw… some other weapon. SO MANY QUESTIONS. SO MANY TEASERS. WHYYYY VALVVRAAAVVEEEE WHY YOU HAVE TO HAVE A ONE SEASON GAP??? I’M SO HYPED ALREADY!!!!

Valvrave the Liberator Episode 12 (FINALE) Review

Valvrave the Liberator got progressively better as each episode went along after the half-way mark. I mean, every episode got to higher heights, and we never really get disappointed by the amount of absurdities, entertainment, and pure amazingness that it delivers. I was worried from episode one as to if Sunrise could really keep this going, but by the last episode of this season, I am convinced that Sunrise will continue to excel in bringing us QUALITY FUCKING ANIME. I mean, who would have expected what Valvrave has offered? Anyone can imagine absurdities, but for it to progress like this with events that blow my mind one after the other is something that still requires finesse.

Remember Code Geass’ first season ending? That was bullshit right? Well, Valvrave delivers something that doesn’t make us totally angry about the ridiculous cliffhanger, but makes us want to see more because it’s just awesome. Sure, it’s a cliffhanger, but it’s a damn good one that makes me anticipate the next season instead of raging about the cliffhanger. Man, this is why I wanted to review anime. I have always wanted to be there when something like this glorious piece of work happens. It just reminds me why I do this and damn am I glad I picked up this hobby on time. Anime of the Season? Hell no, this… this is…

ANIME OF THE YEAR ALL YEAR EVERY YEAR.
THAT’S VALVRAVE FOR YOU.

GET ALL YOUR BODIES READY FOR THE SECOND SEASON EVEN THOUGH IT’LL PROBABLY SURPASS OUR EXPECTATIONS YET AGAIN. It may be hard to keep up the hype, but we can always look back to this episode or re-watch the whole series before season 2 airs to see why we enjoy this anime to begin with. Personally, this has been a fucking hell of a ride. Thank you all for your replies as the comments I get on Valvrave outnumber all the other ones I get. Thank you very much for being with me for the ride. I’m sure it wouldn’t have nearly been as fun. We’ll still keep going with other shows, but Valvrave will still be at the back of our minds. I’m beginning to feel a bit sad at the inevitable end of Valvrave, but IT’LL BE ONE MORE HELL OF A RIDE BEFORE THAT HAPPENS.

      Thanks a lot!
S2 is going to have so many things in it it’s going to be insane. Dem outfits… Dem outfits…

  • Citsim

Ok, I have to say I’m impressed. For a lot of things, actually.

-Saki cut the crap of the “taking responsibility” marriage sensibly. Painful, but necessary. Not to say Haruto did wrong with the proposal giving he’s a confused teenager in a war zone, but this is better.

-The drill stopped in the nick of time was expected, as well as Akira overcoming her calustrophobia to pilot the last Valvrave. What I didn’t expect was the posion. Damn Dorssian bastards…
-Cain as the big bad? Why not? He’s an adult vampire L-Elf, after all.

-Now everything makes sense: Dorssia attacking JIOR, ARUS not doing anything of value to stop them, JIOR amking mechas of mass destruction in secret… Conspiracy!

I would have been more impressed if the whole “the world’s leaders are conspiring in secret to use mechas to change humanity” haven’t been used time and time again since Evangelion. Now the theories that the first flashforward didn’t show Saki as a rebel against the evil empire, but as a defender of the good empire against the rebels make sense. But who knows, I’m sure this series will have more surprises in the future.

And last, but not least, I’m impressed that NO MAIN CHARACTER has died in this last episode. There were so many death flags that I call it a twist ending xD

    • Irenesharda

Small correction: Akira can’t have claustrophobia (extreme fear of enclosed spaces) because she would never be able to live in that tiny shelter. I’d say it’s more than likely agoraphobia (fear of open spaces and crowded social interaction) or anthropophobia (fear of people).

But whatever her anxiety disorder, she definitely took some big steps in trying to conquer it this episode.

      • Citsim

Sorry, my bad, I meant agoraphobia. Freudian slip ;)

I hope it’s not just one of those magical TV cures (“every personal disroder can be cured with somebody saying motivational things to you!”). Looking forward to the next season, something I wouldn’t have said at the beginning of the series.

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

Saki definitely earns some points there. I really like what she did. She knows it wouldn’t have really worked out.

Cain is SPACE VAMPIRE CHARLES THE FIFTH.

Can’t believe none of us guessed that they’re plotting in secret. Jesus, that’s too good. They kind of had an old trick and just concealed it so well. Impressive shit.

We can always try to guess, and we’ll get some right eventually, but it’s so damn hard predicting Valvrave. We’re just rats scrambling in a maze really.

HAHA. So many death flags and no one dies. Now that’s surprising indeed.

      • Citsim

The thing I like about the conspiracy is that EVERYONE is in it. It’s not just one evil superpower that makes war while plotting something more heinous in secret: the leaders of ARUS and Dorssia are conspiring together, and the leaders of JIOR wanted their own piece of the cake.

Now I understand why almost everybody (L-Elf, L-Elf’s friend, Cain, future Saki) is talking about doing some revolution.

        • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

I know right. The upper echelons of society are all in it. Shoko’s dad was involved in some way and so were Haruto’s parents. Hell, Haruto’s parents were the ones who made the Valvraves. I’m still wondering what A-Drei is talking about with the revolution though. Does he know as well?

          • Citsim

Maybe he knows something… Or maybe it was Cain who instilled in him ideas of revolution, trying to use him as an unwitting pawn to further his own goals.

I can’t be the only one who thinks Cain will try to wipe out the rest of the Magius to become the sole God-Emperor of Vampire Mankind, am I? (but fear not, Shouko will be the Goddess-Empress with cow-head mecha! xD).

  • Dycize

    AOTYAYEY!

I totally expect the finale to be glorious FUCK YEAH IT IS. Now that’s how you do a god damn’ cliffhanger. I am so hyped for season 2. So. Much.

This episode was amazing and VVV6 was too. Hnnnng Boku ja nai. Akira and Shoko talking was the weakest part but it was necessary for a glorious insert song and the appropriate mecha and stopping this monstrosity of a drill. Chemical weapons, damn. So many students died.

That way of dealing with the Valvraves was just… Wow. They basicalled turned the grunts into manned heat missiles. And it -worked-. Also it was nice to see Saki kick lots of ass! And being so understanding of the whole double rape situation.

But the real meat of the episode was the Cain/L-Elf experience. My gooood. Cain is so broken, but now we know he’s the definite big bad! And VVV-girl’s brother is pretty angry. So angry it sprouted rune arms and legs on a non-operational VVV2. And it’s piloted by Cain.

CUE ILLUMINATIS. Dammit they really were screwed since the beginning huh. And thus, ex-Module 77 is the only beacon of non-Magius-ness in space. God, I wonder how they are going to turn things around. Also that peaceful looking future… Yet we know that 3 years later, Saki will be fighting again.

Season 2 can’t come soon enoooough. It’ll be one season of waiting… One season that doesn’t look too amazing (aside from things like Dangan Ronpa and Watamote). Guess I’ll play catch up on some other things in the mean time… And long for VVVS2.

It was cool reading your reviews of VVV and discussing about it with everyone here yeah! Looking for that too in S2.

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

Holy fucking shit like seriously this anime just blows me away every episode. I don’t even know how it keeps on being more ridiculous each time but it does. Man…

Thanks a lot for reading my reviews and discussing it with us! I have the most fun doing Valvrave reviews because of this so thanks a lot! S2 should be even more amazing. Fuck, I can’t wait.

  • xxbabaxx

Haruto turn dark. Got a feeling its because of Shoko, seeing she is no where to be seen in the season 2 trailer, maybe because she is gonna to be a MASSIVE plot tool.

    3 dam months……. sigh

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

Shit I forgot to mention that. Shoko is nowhere to be found. Yeah, she’s going to be a key person in the next season I’m sure. She honestly hasn’t done THAT much this season so next season will be when Sunrise uses her to pull of some incredible shit.

Hmm… If Cain becomes their mentor… It’s hard seeing how they would get into that situation. Maybe L-Elf sacrifices himself for them? I agree that the Golden 7 are probably on the same side, but it could be that they just call the 7 Valvraves the Golden 7 as well.

It’s probably going to be 12 episodes sadly. I would be fucking blown away if it’s 2-cour long though. That would be incredible, and it would end at the end of the year then. Perfect.

    • Sardorim

She’s shown in the S2 art now, she’s wearing a burgundy outfit and it still Prime Minister.

  • Irenesharda

    OH…MY…GOSH….

This episode literally took my breath away. All the reveals, all the carnage, all the mayhem….just wow…

Cain finally showed his hand, and how! Slaughtering students left and right, using poison gas, he is serious about this. L-elf expected Cain, but we find that despite this, he still is not prepared for the onslaught of his former teacher and master. And if L-elf is scared, you had best be too.

Haruto joins up with L-elf after Cain literally kicks their buts. However, it is only when Akira takes her place as the last of the Valvrave pilots that things take a turn for the better. Well, that is until Cain truly reveals his hand. It seems VVV2 is an unfinished Valvrave, but all it needed was the missing piece that was the green crystal in his birdcage. This crystal becomes the AI entity known as “Blue”, who is not only the angry shadowed image behind VVV-tan (“Red”?), but is also her elder brother, and has a hatred for humans. And for the first time, his activation, allows “VVV-tan” to speak!

Going back to Akira, we find that her agoraphobia, is a result of her being violently bullied in school (what is it with Japanese anime schools that they allow bullying of this intensity and blatancy?). Through a conversation with her, Shoko, and her brother, and then Shoko being knocked out by the oncoming drill, Akira finally finds the courage to come forth from out of the shadows in order to protect her friend. She becomes the pilot of VVV6, which seems to have the ability of “hacking” any object it touches with it’s staff.

Akira is the only one able to stop the drill, just as it reaches the school, as the other 3 Valvraves have been put out of commission by Q-4 and X-1.

Saki is another amazing plot point in this episode, as we get another future shot of her with a young boy who happens to look like a wide-eyed version of L-elf! Is this her son? Is it L-elf and not Haruto that she gets together with? Was it their family photo that was in her locket and did she make her promise too him some 14 years before the last flash forward and 11 years before this one? And if so, how does he become an immortal? And if he is then that means he’s not dead, so what’s going on?

Also, we see that this is 3 years before the last flash forward, and the 3rd Galactic Reich has taken over the galaxy. She speaks of “The Founder” and how he was first fighting for “Module 77” in those days, and the first time he had contact with a Magius. Is the Founder Haruto? L-elf? I’m guessing the “Magius” she’s referring to is Cain, but that’s not clear, though we do notice that she where’s the Magius symbol on her thigh.

And who are the Magius? Well, it looks as if we are delving into the “secret society that runs everything” trope, as we learn that not only Cain, but also BOTH world leaders, as well as the Fuhrer’s council, are also also Magius. and that they basically run the world. Well, I can honestly say that I didn’t expect that.

Haruto and his fellow pilots aren’t as unique as they thought, and Haruto is a “third generation” according to Cain, and he doesn’t seem too impressed. Speaking of Haruto, Saki of course denies his proposal, saying that she is an idol and is above all that, and that sexual assault is something that an idol has to live with. However, even naive Haruto sees that it’s a front, and we can see that Saki is trembling from emotional pain inside her cockpit. Now whether that’s because she loves Haruto, but knows that what’s happened between them will only cause them misery, or because she is remembering that night, or a little bit of both? That is up for interpretation.

Well, back to the Magius, we can see they are somewhat magical vampires, as Cain speaks a spell or chant over himself to create the green bubble he uses to break into the room with VVV2. A-drei (who it seems is through with L-elf’s noncooperation) and H-neun (who it seems honestly just really wanted to share tea with Kriemhild) as well as L-elf and Haruto witness his powers and discover that he is in fact not human but Magius vampire. He can use Blue to power any Valvrave he wants so, it’s possible that it’s the entity that allows you to pilot and not the machine. So if Haruto’s vehicle was destroyed, he could, in all possibility take out VVV-tan’s “crystal” and place it into another frame and create a new Valvrave!

I can hardly wait for next season, a whole 3 months or so away. This show looks like it can easily become Sunrise’s next franchise. It’s obvious that the Magius win and take over the galaxy, but we need to see how it is that they get there. What troubles will Haruto and his friend come across along the way? What is the nature of the 3rd Galactic Reich?

Oh, I have never hoped for October to come so soon! I give this episode a 9.98/10, only because I hoped for some named characters to die. Yet, with Cain with a Valvrave of his own, I think that the students of Module 77 aren’t out of the woods yet.

I give this season a 9/10. It kept me highly entertained, and even with some rather ridiculous moments, I know I’ve found a keeper. I’ll be awaiting the second season with high anticipation.

Man, I really have nothing more to add. You basically said everything else on my mind. I think there was one thing I wanted to say when I read your comment originally, but now the thought has escaped me.

I don’t think I’ve ever been as hyped for an anime. Seriously. This is just great stuff. I’m just hoping that this well sell well or else Sunrise won’t really care for this franchise. We’ll have to see the figures, but I’m thinking that it’ll at least go up because of this episode. Hell, this is crazy, INSANE, AMAZING SHIT RIGHT HERE.

  • Drig

    VALVRAVE. ‘Nuff said.

I might start using it instead of the phrase “over the top fcking awesome!”

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

VALVRAVE IS JUST VALVRAVE. No need to say “over the top fucking awesome!” because VALVRAVE already represents much more than in and of itself.

      • Drig

        Well said! Touche!!!

  • Psychopatito

Just to note some details that I found interesting. I haven’t checked yet the previous eps but I think Haruto went from calling Saki ‘Rukinosan’ to addressing her as ‘kimi,’ the form of ‘you’ in Japanese that one uses to talk to those that are really close—I think he doesn’t even use ‘kimi’ when talking to Shoko—, so anyone hearing that would know there was a tectonic shift in their relationship. Also, Cain called L-elf something close to ‘you brat’ which tells me he doesn’t much respect him. I like that we have now a proper nemesis for the awesome L-elf, after all, it wouldn’t be much fun otherwise. I check back later cause I have to return to work. But yes, this is the best anime ever!

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

Ah, you are actually correct I think. I’m not sure about Haruto addressing Shoko as I didn’t really pay attention to that, but you’re right about Saki. Well, they did go through… something…

Totally. It’s more like Cain is demeaning L-Elf while feeling superior to his ultimate creation. Oh well, he basically thinks he’s his master after all. So… yeah… But it’s really nice to see L-Elf face off against someone stronger. Otherwise, things would be too easy. Man, totally reminds me of Charles and Lelouch. Damn, you have to check it out. It’s just… fantastically phenomenal.

  • http://bmdimension.blogspot.com/ Cassandra@Book&Movie Dimension

The little boy that looks like L-elf is so cute.
I loved this whole episode as much as ep. 1 which began the series really strong.
I have to agree Valvrave the Liberator is the anime of the year:)

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

Favourite episode. Seriously. I don’t even know how it went this far from episode one. The way they did everything, the way things are starting to somewhat make sense but confuse us at the same time… Just… Just amazing. It’s just… VALVRAVE. No other words to describe it really.

  • evilnemesis

That ARUS/Dorssia alliance, I knew it. Fuckers were “allies” and never send any sort of help at all, knew something was amiss.

I won’t bother making a big comment since everyone basically covered it all and the rest is only speculation that won’t get us anywhere.

Firstly I have to say that I’m impressed at the main characters.

Saki wen’t from turbo attention whore to a solid “I would bang and marry” kind of girl.

Shoko wen’t from serious brain problems to girl that doesn’t totally lose it and stronk savior of friend ( Akira ) .

Haruto, well he basically did the same thing Spinzaku did. What do I mean by that ? He stopped being a total moralfag and grew balls, in more ways than one. Too bad Sunrise doesn’t seem to like him that much haha.

But I have to say, Haruto would make for the worst Harem Protagonist ever.

First confession is laughed as a joke, marriage proposal refused. Man that’s not how you acquire bitches, you’re doing it wrong man.

All in all solid show, at first I was a bit annoyed because seemingly everyone either had brain problems or was a complete douche. I was seriously questioning what the fuck Sunrise was doing. I was asking myself, are they doing some sort of all the bad clichés sort of parody show?

There’s some bad writing here and there, but man the ride is pretty solid in the end. I can’t wait for S2, that’s where the real shit is going to pop.

Also for shipping it looks like Haruto is going to be a lonely man, haha where that smug face at now? No one wins teh harutob owl.

Also, the director did mention that they’d look at the fan reaction and that may influence some of the writing of Season 2. Saki is by far the most loved character in Japan ( poll puts her at 50% ) of the votes. Kind of crazy since she’s “used goods” and Japan is usually very unforgiving of this kind of thing.

So what does this mean for best girl ? Will she acquire happiness in the end, will there be only long and lonely life ?

I don’t know but season 2 come and show me the path to real Sunrise-tier suffering, let no one be spared.

    MY BODY IS READY!

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

So the fan reaction will affect the writing in Season 2? That’s… interesting. Well, it affects all shows in one way or another. But it should be interesting how it works out if that’s the case because Sunrise has stuck to their own guns for now, but if they listen to the audience, will that hamper the series?

50%? Shit, that’s a lot. Do you have a link on those stats? I’m interested in the other characters as well. But yeah, it’s actually pretty surprising because of what you said. Well, she is still alive 200 years later. All dem time-skips are pretty effective in teasing us about what’s to come.

Man, season 2. Seriously, this will be a long season, and by the next, I’ll be pretty busy with real life stuff so I’m not that sure if I can pull off these kinds of reviews all the time. Oh well, I’m hyped as hell though.

      • evilnemesis

There’s been a few polls from 2ch and from other sites. My jap skills are pretty mediocre so I’m not going to bother trying to navigate my way through. I saw them linked by /a/ netizens that know japanese.

The poll I saw was hilarious, Shoko was being defeated by non-main characters. Liselotte ( or w/e or name is ) was higher than Shoko ( Shoko was at like 3% ) and she has like 2 minute of air time at best.

Nippon hates Shoko with a passion.

guess it’s to be expected when you look at Japan’s society and how they handle studying and work ethics in general. I mean this is the country that when you fuck up, they strongly suggest you resign( it’s considered rude to fire someone ) or transfer you to some random branch office left to rot.

They don’t look kindly to shit like ” hey we’re in danger of being attacked but let’s throw a moon festival ” .

But yeh Saki on top ( lel ) and L-elf being 2nd is usually how the japanese polls go, as expected. During the 2nd part of the season she had the most character development so it’s just natural and L-elf is just a badass. That is until cain, which probably spiked like in popularity like crazy after this episode

        • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

LOL. That’s pretty funny to be honest. Well, that’s actually kind of strange seeing that this poll has it completely the other way around.
          http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2013/06/01-1/japanese-poll-results-favorite-character-from-spring-2013

Well, it is before Shoko pulled off all that crazy shit about the moon. Interesting nonetheless… Kind of strange how things changed so quickly though haha since Saki is like way down.

CAIN. OH MAN. THEY SHOULD HAVE ANOTHER POLL JUST FOR HIM. GG. NO CONTEST HERE. SPACE VAMPIRE CHARLES VI DORSSIA THE FIRST.

          • Citsim

Why am I not surprised Mikasa is the first in that poll? She’s the best :D

But talking about Valvrave, I suppose the creators will have better polls at their disposal. I have to say, almost every character has grown on me (except L-Elf, he was awesome from the get-go). Even characters I despised in the beginning, now I can at least tolerate them.

And it’s not just the characters. The last episodes have been better too. I think that, at last, the writers know what they want to do with the series.

          • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

I’m actually surprised how much better the characters have gotten, but that’s not really saying too much. Definitely is more exciting and more ridiculous, but in a good way in these last few episodes. It’s not just completely random. It makes… sense (little by little) which is weird because of how everything is done.

          • Citsim

            Yes, you’re right.

Oh, well, I didn’t comment until the last episodes, but I must confess your amazing reviews made this series more bearable until those awesome last episodes. If you’re doing the next season, I’ll be here for the reviews again ;)

          • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

Thank you very much! I’ll DEFINITELY do it next season. Basically on my preview for Fall 2013 it’s going to be #1 no matter what else is on because it’s VALVRAVE.

I’ll try to be as quick as I am this season, but I’ll definitely be way more busy in that season so who knows? I’ll try my best though! I hope you’ll be along for that ride too. It should be even more… MIND BLOWINGLY CRAZY.

          • xxbabaxx

sadly jap don’t care much about any reaction from other countries, only really look at the audience within japan which sucks kinda. that also why we get VALVRAVE tho so is a good thing kinda.

          • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

I’m not sure if you’re saying the poll that I showed is from japan or not, but it is from Japan. But yes, even if people like the characters in other countries, Japan doesn’t really care all that much. After all, it’s the otakus who are buying the DVD/BDs.

          • xxbabaxx

yea i mean polls in general from other country, haha. Sad becuase there so much otakus in other asia countries HK, China especially. AnimeOne is quite big of a community, def holds some weight. Glad to see 8man up there, WHATS CHIHO doing there. haha, even tho Ashiya is one of my fav character, hes not that popular in japan sadly, even CHIHO beats him in most post/ poll i seen, must be her “plot”. That includes LN character poll, ARUSHIERUUUUU~ ! T_T

          • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

NOOOOOOO ASHIYA IS THE BEST MOM THOUGH. :( Oh well, he’ll be happy knowing that his Maou is up there.

        • BC

Said online polls aren’t even a drop in the barrel as far as the actual fandom numbers go (not to mention the ability to spam votes). Don’t read too much into them.

        • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

I found the poll. Saki is indeed first with 50% of the votes and Shoko is 6th with 18% It’s true that Liselotte has more votes even though she barely appeared. But hey, that’s ERU ERUFU’s girl so… can’t complain there.
          http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=598201&show=100

Scroll down a bit and you’ll find the list and the translation if you need it.

Still, like BC said, it’s not really that many people and we should keep that in mind.

  • Psychopatito

Ok, back from work. BTW, I’m Mexican and live in Mexico city in case this looks too late. Anyway, I’m learning that at least as the opening goes, you have to believe Valvrave. The order of how the pilots would come was right there, as some people pointed out. Besides, when you look at the last image of the ‘nightmare version of an Angelic Layer’ doll—that girl in the Valvrave—you can see the other figure behind—the brother. At first I thought I was seeing things…ok, maybe I am, but at least both the opening and the closing deserve close inspection. I can’t wait for the rest. Thank God we’re not waiting for it a year. And that second season, what the heck is L-elf doing in uniform? The plot is sure to become difficult. We need sister Val to kick the ass of her grouchy Nichan Val. Oh, I loved this ep about the emotional reactions too. Haruto just shocked; L-elf in shock but true to character, kept analyzing his way through it. Wonderful movement to make the characters grow. I’m doing a binge watching of it as soon as I can!

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

Saki and Haruto are being way more awesome than they usually are this time around. From the preview, things are going to get really complicated. I can just sense the drama, tension, and atmosphere that we’ll be getting. Valvrave has progressively gotten darker, and it may just continue on that path to its very end. Man, I’m hyped as hell, but at the same time, I’m feeling kind of weird knowing that this anime is going to end. Aaaaa withdrawal!!!

  • L-Elf Karlstein

I can’t believe Cain outgambled me in the last episode of the season.

Best moment was with Akira breaking out of her cardboard shell, figuratively and literally: “SUPERMARKET!!!”

    I lol’ed at that one.

Well ERU ERUFU you certainly got destroyed. Hard. Haha.

  • The Kameha-me whatever boy

I think this anime was good, but in my opinion it left WAYYY to many thing’s out. I know they are saving things for the next season like who is the girl and the guy in the machines, Cains cult, etc. But I just found it annoying that there were SO MANY questions unanswered and a cliffhanger on top of it. Other then that its an amazing series. BTW- I hate it when animes do the whole symbolism thing that makes you go “lol what?” Like the first part of the episode where it showed little L-elf or whatever it was talking about earth. I don’t know it was just very confusing.

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

I know how you feel, but sadly, with the scope that Valvrave has and the 12 episode limit, there’s not much Sunrise could have really done to tie loose ends. It’s just not possible to give conclusions to a lot of these things because of the short time duration along with what Sunrise wishes to achieve. Nonetheless, I do understand your frustration.

But hey, at least it’s not as bad as Code Geass’ R1 cliffhanger.

  • lol

I love the show but hope it gets canceled and drives you up the walk ill be willing to give up,a good anime for that rofl

  • qO_ol

did not anyone think that Shoko would be the next Valvrave pilot after the death of her father?
Perhaps in S2. i’d like to speculate for a ‘strongest’ unseen Valvrave…Valvrave Zero, a sort of maternal figure. 777 threshhold.

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

Quite a number of people have speculated that she will have her own Valvrave even before the death of her father myself included. It’s just that we don’t know exactly when. Being that she isn’t in the preview of the next season, I expect something crazy from Shoko.

Yeah best anime of the year no doubt…
MIND-BLOWN! Can’t wait to fall in love with Saki again…

  • Anime Fan

I sincerely hope that Saki doesn’t end up with Cain, that’d be disgusting. She was holding a gun in that scene, which hopefully suggests animosity between the two. And asking for Haruto’s aid would most likely mean that she hasn’t changed sides. Now whether or not it’s Haruto X Shoko or Haruto X Saki, I’m fine with either.

More importantly, why did L-Elf say Haruto’s gonna die? And what did he mean by choosing the next pilot? Man season 2 better have more than 12 episodes. I’d pay them my savings (20 bucks) to do it!
