Winter 2014 Anime (PREVIEW)

Winter 2014 anime
White Album's season is coming.

Not bad for winter.
Winter 2014 Anime (PREVIEW)
(Scroll down for latest content. This will be on top for a few days)

It’s a brand new year, and what better way to kick it off, other than my White Album 2 super-delayed episode 7 review, than a preview for the upcoming season? Winter is one of the weaker seasons of the year, and it shows. There are not too many anime I am anticipating compared to the hectic fall 2013 season. Still, that season left me a few bitter tastes here and there with how almost all of my most anticipated series ended up doing not so well. Nonetheless, there are still plenty of leftovers from the fall 2013 along with some other hype-inducing shows like Space Dandy, Nobuna the Fool, Chuunibyou (DESU), and so on. Let’s get started!

Note: I am only previewing TV Series that I will at least watch the first episode of. I will not preview series that I haven’t watched previous seasons of either. I skipped out on previewing a lot of series because they are only shorts of 4-5 minutes. This is not a complete list. For a much more complete list, please see RandomC’s preview, and this chart for the all-encompassing list.

Tiered System

Within the tier, it starts from what I least anticipate to what I most anticipate. The last (most anticipated) few ones of the tier can sometimes be fairly close to the next tier. Consequently, the first few of each tier can sometimes be close to the previous tier. The tiers are not relative to the anime in each season. This means that there are no fixed number of any tier for any season. It’s possible for there to be no tier ones. The number of tier one and tier two anime are probably good indicators of how good the season looks at a glance. The status is a general indicator about how likely it is for me to do first impressions and actual reviews. It doesn’t mean that I’ll do all tier 2 impressions, but I’ll try to do as many as I can for those that interest me. There are shows that are difficult to review episodically as there may be nothing to really worth analyzing though that doesn’t make the show bad so some series may be high up on my list, but I may not review them because of that.

Note: These are tentative. Also, if any anime, regardless of tier, has great episodes, I will try to do reviews.

Tier 4: Least anticipated – Will try it out, but very prone to being dropped.
Status: First episode only unless it’s good enough

Tier 3: Moderately anticipated – Looks at least somewhat interesting. Will probably hold out for a few episodes.
Status: Three episode rule

Tier 2: Heavily anticipated – At first glance, appears to be above average. Three episode rule at least.
Status: First Impressions and/or general review at the end of the season.

Tier 1: Extremely anticipated – Very promising looking anime that I will most likely watch every episode of.
Status: Episodic Reviews

TIER 4 (Least Anticipated)

Although I’m a huge fan of soundtracks, and music in general, I’ve never really looked too much into the “idol genre.” I have seen bits and pieces of shows like Love Live!, The iDOLM@STER, AKB0048, and so on, but I never really ended up sitting through every single episode and watching it all. That’s not to say that I think this genre is “bad” as I definitely haven’t watched enough to judge, but I’m just not too interested in watching one on a weekly basis. Though I’ve always wanted to sit down and watch it, this one won’t be the one that I’d start on. As I am as of now quite uninterested in the genre, there’s no way I can be anticipated for this anime.

Oh man was I in for a surprise when I read the first chapter of the manga and saw that the sister was immediately on top of the main protagonist lusting after his body like a dog in heat. But wait, it’s not as if the sister actually loves the main protagonist, she has to share her body with a spirit that really wants the D. Man, that’s got to be tough, but hey, at least it’s set up so they’re not blood related as she’s just a step-sister! This will be without the incest restraints that, for example, Oreimo has! That’s got to be worth something, right? Yeah, okay.

The manga was nominated for the 5th Manga Taisho Award, and now it’s going to be animated by WIT STUDIO who brought us Shingeki no Kyojin. It going to be a comedy-based show, and looking through the first few chapters of the manga, I can’t say I like the humor all too much, but you’d have to read a bit of the manga yourself to find out. It does have a supernatural twist surrounding heaven and hell, and a lot of that support the humor of the manga itself. Adapting it into an anime also means that the humor may change for better or for worse, so checking out the first episode is probably a good idea even if you didn’t find the humor in the manga that appealing.

Well, that’s some interesting usage of sound. If this show has got one thing going for it, it has to be how crazy it looks to be from the preview. This is probably going to be just be one of those series that you turn your brain off and enjoy. For these shows to be enjoyable there needs to be something like a crazy plot that, for example, Valvrave has, or nicely choreographed over the top action, or just great visuals for those action scenes and at least decent execution for the action scenes themselves. So far, it doesn’t seem like the visuals are going to be anything that’s going to stand out, but it’s got a gatling gun so that’s at least something. Other than some enjoyable action, I’m not really seeing any more prospects for this show. Nonetheless, if they get that down, it’ll at least be enjoyable enough for some people to watch.

I want to believe. I really do. Why? Because WHITE FOX is doing this. I severely underestimated Hataraku Maou-sama! back in the Spring 2013 Preview, and it turned out to be what I think to be the best comedy of 2013. Not that it means anything WHITE FOX does will turn out to be great even with its fantastic track record, but can’t I dream? Kuroda Yousuke is also writing the script and he’s responsible for the script of Ano Natsu, Jormungand, Gundam 00, and so on as well. It has enough staff-wise going for it that I’d say it’d be worth checking out the first few episodes of just to see where it goes. Will this be a stain on WHITE FOX’s record? We’ll have to wait and see.

Now this is an interesting one. Not that I look around for yuri shows, (I don’t, seriously) but it’s not often that I see yuri shows that are 1-cour being made by Studio DEEN of all studios. Looking through the source material, I can’t say I’m too impressed with it as yuri is really not my thing, but it’s not downright terrible and some parts are entertaining. I’m just genuinely curious to see how this kind of show will develop with Studio DEEN at the helm. I’m not quite hyped or anything, but this will be one to keep an eye out for as it is quite… unusual for a yuri manga to be adapted into a 1-cour anime.

Rejoice, it’s a RomCom light novel that doesn’t have a long name! You know what that means, the anime won’t have a long name either! But wait, we shouldn’t be deceived by this. But wait, we have the director of Baka Test, and Kokoro Connect, and the person responsible the series composition isn’t so bad either. Add on Hanazawa, and you can see why I’m going to be giving this at least a few episodes before dismissing it as “just another RomCom.” Silver Link has shown with the two aforementioned anime that they are quite capable of doing RomCom after all, and you can probably at least expect something enjoyable from the series.

Here is yet another slice of life comedy directed by the director of GJ-Bu. While I haven’t finished GJ-Bu, the five to six episodes that I’ve watched were just soothingly enjoyable. From the premise and the preview, it looks to be going in more or less the same route, so checking out GJ-Bu or shows like that is probably going to give you an indicator as to whether you’ll like this show. These are the types of shows that pad out the season, and, while mostly forgettable, can give you an enjoyable experience week to week nevertheless. If I have time, it’s nice to just sit back, grab a drink and some snacks, and watch these types of shows. It can be a nice form of relaxation after a tiring day.

I’m not really sure what to think of this series from what information I have so far. The premise itself is interesting, but from the looks of the previews it looks to be a mix of fantasy, comedy, and action meaning that it probably won’t be too serious which is a shame since I wanted to see some glorious world domination. I was probably hoping for too much looking at the character designs. At least it has the director in charge of Darker than Black. If they somehow cleverly mix in the “world domination” aspect then it may be worth watching the whole thing. One can dream…

Well, here’s another one of those magic, school kind of shows you’ve come to expect from anime nowadays. There are only a few chapters of the manga out right now, and reading through them, I can’t say that it makes me think otherwise about how generic this show is going to be. It is animated by Madhouse so at least we can expect some nice visuals for the fights if nothing else. I never really expect too much from these types of shows with the exception of MAHOUKA BECAUSE GARY STU AND MARY SUE MWAHAHAHAH DIS SPRING IS GUNNA BE GUD. Anyways, hopefully it won’t be too cliche and cringeworthy, but it obviously won’t beat the wincest that is Miyuki and Tatsuya. Yep. Oreimo can suck it.

Like Mahou Sensou, this anime is going to be another “magic school” type of show, but the thing that stands out is that we have a very alpha female protagonist who is attracted to the not so alpha male protagonist. Having the overpowered witch listen to the useless male protagonist, at least compared to the other witches, can be one of many entertaining parts that this show can offer. Oh, and bunnies. Bunnies, and all kinds of other creatures. Bunnies are cute. It has the comedy, but it also has somewhat of a serious tone to it at times. I’m not sure how well this mixture will work out in the long run, however. Nonetheless, seeing a badass fire witch burning things up may not be bad if it’s well animated though expecting anything beyond that may not be a good idea.

After reading the first few chapters of the manga, I’m actually pleasantly surprised as it managed to get a few laughs out of me here and there. What really stands out to me are the characters. They’re all a bit… crazy, but that’s what makes the scenarios in the manga quite interesting after all. It helps that the cast of voice actors include FukuJunHanazawaSaito Chiwa, and so on. This is the comedy to look forward to this season if comedy is your central focus as this one will be just gag after retort after gag. If it’s anything like the manga, then it should be a show to get your weekly dose of laughs from.

With what sounds to be a great opening, Hamatora oozes a style that is reminiscent of shows like Durarara. Well, maybe not that much, but kind of. What’s most interesting is the fact that the main character is a part of a detective team which is why this series has the “mystery” genre in the first place. While it doesn’t show much of that aspect in the previews, I’m very much looking forward to how they mix that with the colorful action. It’s not often that I a premise where the main characters are after a serial killer. Hopefully the mystery aspect will not just be an afterthought.

I actually randomly stumbled across the manga and read a good dozen chapters only to find out later that it’s being adapted into an anime! While it’s nothing too original with the typical supernatural mix with a school setting, it’s got a certain sweetness to it that’s enjoyable to read. Well, by sweetness I just mean how Ukanomitama-no-kami is the best. Yes, the best. Best girl, best God, best adorab- In all seriousness, not that I’m not serious when I stated the previous facts, the manga was an enjoyable read. Unoriginal, but enjoyable nonetheless. If you’re into this type of show, then you won’t be disappointed, but otherwise, it’s nothing that stands out too much. Or, you could just watch for the best girl, Ukanomitama-no-kami. Yeah, just watch for that.

HERE WE GOOOO AGAIN… Holy crap why does Sunrise have to make this fucking show when they could MAKE SEASON 3 OF VALVRAVE?! Fuck this shit. Fuck your shit Sunrise, and fuck you. Okay, I’ll be a bit calmer now that I’ve gotten that out of the way. Seriously, this show is going through the same old Sunrise formula, but that’s how I saw Valvrave back in the Spring 2013 Preview and well, let’s just say that it was completely unexpected. I can’t say I’m a fan of the mechs shown in the previews, but at least there will be some Sunrise mecha action this season aside from the unexpectedly awesome Gundam Build Fighters. Honestly, if this becomes too typical and cliche, I’m just ready to laugh my ass off and make fun of everything like I did for the first half of Valvrave. But who really knows? Maybe it’ll be another surprise like Valvrave. You never really know with Sunrise. BUT FUCK THEM FOR NOT MAKING A SEASON 3 OF VALVRAVE THEIR TOP PRIORITY.

Aerial combat, romance, and originally created by Inumura Koroku who is also the original creator of Toaru Hikuushi e no Tsuioku, this is going to be a show to look forward to if you’re wanting some romance this season. It’s also nice to see some of the new voice actors take on more roles as Ishikawa Kaito and Hanae Natsuki both did quite nice jobs of their respective roles. Voice acting is essential as it is responsible for a large portion of the emotional portrayal which is why it’s even more important in romance driven shows. Hanae is doing a great job as Hikari in Nagi no Asukara so far, and Ishikawa even takes part in Nagi no Asukara as well as Tsumugu. I’m completely unfamiliar with the source material so I’m not sure if 1-cour is enough as it is five volumes long, but there is always the worry of pacing when a romance anime is slated to be 1-cour. Compassion, friendship, love, and forgiveness are the major ideas of this anime. That’s quite a lot to tackle, so hopefully it won’t try to bite off more than it can chew and instead focuses on a major aspect such as love with all the other themes tightly wrapping around it because otherwise there won’t be much depth to anything.

Okay, you’re probably wondering why the heck is this so high up. I mean, it is ARMS after all. I know, I’m probably making a mistake, but remember this is just how anticipated I am, and from how great the previews look technically, I can’t help but be excited even though I know that what the damn anime will be may very well fall flat. However, the premise regarding the “magic courtroom” is interesting, so maybe something decent will come of this? Honestly, I’m just hoping the story is decent enough for me to be distracted by the gorgeous animations because they are damn good. It probably won’t be so great throughout the whole season, but if there is going to be a few incredible looking scenes, then I’ll be happy. But I’m worried about the plot. And no, I don’t mean PLOT. I mean, plot.

Out of all the manga adaptations in this preview, the one that has the best source material to me, aside from Nisekoi which I did not read enough to judge, is Noragami. Combining comedy, supernatural elements, and action, this anime takes a more serious look through the eyes of Yato, a God. Well, he’s just a weak God out of many other ones, and you get to experience some decent comedy and the darker side of what the characters go through. This mix of comedy and seriousness does remind me of Hataraku Maou-sama as that show mixed the two extremely well. However, Hataraku is more light-hearted in comparison as the events in Noragami tend to be on the more serious side of things. Nevertheless, it will be one of those shows to look forward to this season. It’s even animated by BONES on top of that!

Holy crap, SHAFT is adapting Nisekoi! Well, I’m pretty sure no one expected that. Not too long ago, I decided to read a bit of Nisekoi, but since I saw that it was going to be adapted by SHAFT of all studios, I decided to just wait as I’ll probably review a few episodes here and there. What troubles me more than anything else is the fact that the manga is simply not finished. We all know how sketchy things can get when anime try to create their original endings. Nonetheless, this is going to be 2-cour so there’ll be plenty of time to flesh things out to make an original ending if the need arises. More than anything, I’m interested in seeing how Shinbou, and SHAFT in general will adapt this.

Da Vinci? Oda Nobuna? Mecha action? Planetary battles? Kawamori Shoji? MIYANO SCREAMING?! Okay, I’m in. Seriously though, who isn’t going to be curious to see how this mix of all these elements will end up being? We all know how well versed Kawamori is with the mecha genre given his record with the Macross franchise and various other titles, so seeing him make another mecha series with a premise like this is something to be anticipated for. We can expect to see great action from his series and when you add on the MIYANO SCREAM there’s no way I’m not going to be interested. Oh, even Hikasa Yoko is voicing the female protagonist. Personally, I’m very accepting towards visuals in general so CGI usually isn’t a problem to me. This show seems to be relying fairly heavily on it, and it may turn some people off, but hey, over the top action can’t be too bad with it. It’d be a waste to skip out on this show without at least checking out the first few episodes if it’s just to see where it goes. The potential is there.

WHATEVER, DESU. DESU. DESU… Okay, I admit, I have a chuunibyou side of me too. I mean, not to the degree that these characters have it, but sometimes it’s just fun to let loose. This is the second season of Chuunibyou, and the first season was one of the first few anime I ever did posts on. Just don’t read too much of what I posted back then because they were terrible. Don’t get me wrong, they still are, but reading some of it… THAT IS MY EMBARRASSING CHUUNIBYOU PAST FOR ALL TO SEE. Yeah, I enjoyed this series quite a bit as you can probably tell. Some people are surprised that there is a second season because, well, the first season ended pretty conclusively. I don’t expect this season to be much more than a bunch of random antics that will be just enjoyable, and you know what? That’s fine. Not only is it premiering in United States before it airs in Japan, it’s premiering in English. Yes, this is going to be in English from the get-go. This is how confident they are that this will be a hit in the west, and with names like Watanabe Shinichiro and Sato Dai who are both responsible for Cowboy Bebop, I’m not too surprised. It’s even going to be animated by BONES! This is going to be a show focused mostly on comedy itself so it’ll be interesting to see how they go into territory that they’re not familiar with. But when the first part of the first episode talks about a woman’s behind, yes, her best asset, HER BOOTY, I think I will be entertained.

Winter 2013 Anime Roundup

I’ve gotten quite used to Thursday being packed, but this season’s highlight is Sunday with over seven shows on that day alone. It’s understandable considering that Thursday is already packed from the previous season. Yes, I missed shows like the second season of Seitokai Yakuindomo, and Gin no Saji. Yes, I’m a terrible person as I should have finished those shows, but I find that when I stop watching a show because of other priorities I rarely pick it back up quickly. It’s not as if I’d even be able to review a comedy episodically like that in the first place as there’s not really too much to talk about.

As for the anime in the fall season, I’m planning to at least do a few episodes of Nagi no Asukara, Log Horizon, Golden Time, and other shows I’ve missed this season. I don’t do backlogs so don’t expect any (White Album 2 is an exception). Also do not expect me to review them episodically as that would make my week far too hectic. I will review certain key episodes, and you can feel free to tell me which episodes you think deserve a review. Also, if you have any show you want me to review, please use the contact form and don’t forget to tell me why as well. I don’t want to miss another show like White Album 2 just because of a stupid reason like ignoring the series because of the “2” in its title. I try to be as vigilant as possible, but that show regrettably managed to slip through my grasp.

This isn’t looking to be too fantastic of a season though as long as shows like Space Dandy and Nobunaga the Fool do well, I’ll be happy enough as the last winter season was atrocious. Hopefully I can give you guys a Youtube video before January is over, but no promises! General reviews for anime that have ended will come after that Youtube video and the general reviews I make from now will all have a Youtube version provided that I don’t run into troubles with Youtube itself and their Content ID crap. Anyways, here’s to another great season! Thanks for reading, and feel free to leave suggestions or just discuss what this new winter season may hold! Cheers, and happy new year!

OOOOOOO~ This is going to be a very, very good year.

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

For a winter season, it’s definitely not bad. 2014 was already looking strong with the 2-cours from fall so I have high hopes for this year.

  • Evening Breeze

Noragami would be good, I think. Looking forward to it’s reviews.
Also, New Prince of Tennis is probably scheduled to be released in summer, I think?
    Anyone know anything about it?

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

Probably only going to do a first impressions and then maybe, and that’s a very big maybe, do some key episodes. I can only go through 4-5 series a week unless it’s the first week where I’ll crank out a few more. I can’t keep it up all the time though.

  • Irenesharda

I’m like you with Buddy Complex. What gives, Sunrise? You gave up giving us a longer season 2/new season 3 of Valvrave, so you could put out this generic, bland knock-off? BC has it’s okay points, such as the plot device of time travel, but other than that everything else is as bland as bland can get.

The OP and ED scenes are lifted straight from SEED. The characters are boring and lifeless, the MC is as 2-D as a sheet of paper, the mechs and action is standard fare. Sigh…there’s nothing that really stands out. I’ll keep watching to see how it goes, but even MJP didn’t start of this bland, and THAT show eventually got pretty good.

Anyway, other than BC, I’ll be watching:
    Noragami
    Nobunaga the Fool
    Sekai Seifuku
    Inari, konkon, koi iroha
    Hamatora
    Mikakunin de Shinkoukei

    • zztop

You could always write a strongly worded letter to Sunrise and head writer Okouchi…;P
Might as well try something productive :)

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

      D:

At least the time travel thing is interesting. But let’s give it some time. Valvrave wasn’t exactly much better in the first half of the first season.

      • Irenesharda

I’m trying to be optimistic, but I liked VVV from episode 1, even before the ending stinger. It might have been by-the-book Sunrise mecha, but it was good and the characters were interesting. I had L-elf, and I was happy.

With BC, it feels like it’s worse than “by the book” and just seems so lifeless. However, I’m hoping it works out. I don’t know how it will work with only 1 cour, but we’ll see.

        • MACHA

For me, Buddy’s first episode was better than VV’s. It really took a slow start. I had to force myself to finish watching it. There was nothing to keep me watching that episode – not the characters, the fighting – nada. Not even the attempt to confess – that was all just drama. By the time the end comes, that’s the only time something remotely interesting happens. And the mystery driving the plot isn’t introduced until the second half of the season. While I love ERU ERUFU, A-drei was the first deciding factor to keep watching :p

Buddy’s only thing going for it definitely the timetravel. And overal, I found the characters be more lively than VV from first ep comparison (only comparing each one’s first ep). And it gets into the action fairly quickly.
However, I agree that the mech is standard.

Code Geass part 2 movie has some gloriously epic mecha action. *u*

          BC only has 1 cour?
Well, that makes things worrisome. Here’s to hoping for a good ride.

  • niknasr

I would say, I am not really excited with Winter lineup probably except Nisekoi, Witchcraft Works, Maken-Ki 2, SYD 2 and Mahou Sensou (I’m a fan of generic light novels being adapted into anime, I know).. Heck, maybe I will watch Nobunaga the fool and Noragami because it have Yuuki Kaji in it.

But as generous as I am, I will give them a fair chance, so I will try to watch one episode each..

Back to the real problem, where are SAO II, Index, Fate/Stay and DxD 3?

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

SAO 2 has been announced already. Winter is traditionally one of the slower seasons so you shouldn’t expect too much from it.

I need my weekly dose of OPPAI.

      • niknasr

It’s a shame really. This is one of the occasions that I am really grateful that there are leftover from previous season.. Golden Time FTW, show that you can be on par or greater than white album 2.:)

DxD is just a matter of time anyway, well, cannot wait for when Issei and co have summer vacation in the underworld.. >.<

  • The Atomic Dwarf

Ah Nisekoi, the one that never ends… It’s a nice story and as long as you don’t expect any plot development, it’ll be a pretty fun an enjoyable show. I’m curious to see how SHAFT is going to handle this one. It’s a bit different from their previous works.

Chuuni2, they’re living together desu? Nice beginning DESU! Your review of the first season was truly amazing, DESU!

Space Dandy: Boobs, Lazors and one sweet set of Hair. Just… Perfect! I have my doubts about watching it dubbed tho. The Japanese guest voice actors are some of the best in the industry so I’d rather watch it subbed.

Nobunaga the Fool, hmm first Girls und Panzer, now Samurai und Mechas? A bit too niche for me.

Just a heads up about Log Horizon, the last 3 episodes are definitely worth your attention and it’ll be a shame if you only blog the final one since It’s bound to leave you a bit wondering. But fear not! Mamare-sensei does not disappoint with this one as he said there’ll be 15 LN volumes and the Anime thus far covers only 3 of them.

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

DESU DESU DESU DESU DESU DESU.

Alright, I’ll be waiting for those three episodes and I’ll try to do what I can. No promises though! But Log Horizon is truly an enjoyable series so it’s great to see that there’ll be more in the future. MWAHAHHAHAHAA.

  • megumi9

I watched the first episode of Buddy Complex, and I definitely wasn’t blown away. The only thing that stood out was the voice acting, IMO. The character designs of Buddy Complex can’t hold a candle to Valvrave’s. Hoshino Katsura-san should seriously lend her talent to some original anime series!! The only few shows I have high hopes for are Koiuta, Chuunibyou and Hamatora. Am anticipating your coverage of Chuunibyou!!

    • zztop

I think the Valvrave creative team made the right decision in commissioning designs from Hoshino. Hopefully this should give her talents more exposure(given all she has is D-Gray Man and misc. one shot manga).

Not to mention the Valvrave OPs were both among the best anime and mainstream J-pop songs of the year. It even appeared on the highly prized Kohaku Uta Gassen music special, together with the Titan OP.

Is Nisekoi’s plot worth following on a weekly basis?
I’ve read the gist of the series on Wikipedia, but I’m not sure about the whole romcom tag.
This question is aimed at manga readers, BTW.

    • The Atomic Dwarf

In the manga after the first 50 or so chapters, the plot freezes. I’d reckon that means 10-12 episodes in the show. It’s a light romcom anime so how you watch it is up to you.

  • MgMaster

I’ll be trying quite a few shows:

    – Neppuu Kairiku Bushi Road
    – Saikin, Imouto no Yousu ga Chotto Okashiinda ga
    – Witch Craft Works
    – SPACE☆DANDY
    – Noragami
    – Buddy Complex
    – Nobunaga the Fool
    – Toaru Hikuushi e no Koiuta
    – D-Frag!
    – Onee-chan ga Kita
    – Mikakunin de Shinkoukei
    – Strange+
    – Nourin
    – Nisekoi
    – Seitokai Yakuindomo 2
    – Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! 2
    – Mahou Sensou

That being said, I’m not really looking forward to anything this season as it looks pretty damn bleak. Space Dandy might be the expection here, especially since an anime like that is exactly what I need after White Album 2 and I trust BONES not to screw it up.

Good thing I have Golden Time,Nagi No Asukara,Strike the Blood & Tokyo Ravens continuing from fall. There’s also Samurai Flamenco but I’m still not sure if I want to pick it up after I found out about the recent developments. It can be as crazy as it wants but casting aside some of it’s characters that were present in about half of it’s run is a big no-no.

    • niknasr

After the best season (fall 2013. of course), this season feels somehow pale compare to that.. Maybe it is a good thing because I didn’t have to put high expectation for the shows and can throughly enjoy it..

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

My heart wasn’t ready for what White Album 2 had in store even though I was ready for some huge shitstorm. NOPE. Still wasn’t ready. I really do need a more chilled out series that doesn’t rip my heart out and Space Dandy looks to be a pretty decent one. Don’t expect too much from Winter. But if you feel kind of down, compare it to last year’s and you’ll be happy that it’s not nearly as bad.

I’m not sure if it’s casting aside them just yet because we only had one episode after that arc. We’ll have to see.

      • MgMaster

You got a point about last winter. I didn’t think it was that bad back then but I realize that was mainly because some good shows were ongoing from fall such as Psycho-Pass,Zetsuen no Tempest & Shin Sekai Yori(at least those were my favorites).

  • Flaiboy

    Meh.

I’ve read several winter season previews expecting something to jump out at me and catch my interest, but nothing does. I’ll probably check out 2 or 3 shows in the hopes that one of the original series will be a sleeper hit; the only “new” anime that I’ll be trying for sure this season is Chu2koi Ren, but if it doesn’t live up to fun in the first season I won’t be afraid to drop it.

Good thing there are a few split and 2-cour shows about which I’m very excited to see continue. This might also be a good season to break into my backlog of archived shows that I haven’t had time to watch, yet.

A good season to all, and may it exceed all our expectations!

    • http://www.entravity.com/ Entrav

That’s how the slower seasons are, but the good thing is just how many 2-cour shows there are for fall that make up for how slow this season appears to be.

Finally gave Buddy Complex a look. It’s not a bad start. It gives just enough to be fairly interesting. I’ll give it a chance and see this ride goes.
But TRUE GLORIOUS MECHA ACTION I found in Code Geass movie part 2 Akito the Exiled. DAT ACTION WAS SATISFYING. Now if only part 3 really does come out in spring…

Aside from Buddy I’ll be checking out
    Space Dandy (DUH.)
    Nobunaga the Fool
    Hozuki no Reitetsu
    Noragami
    Magical Warfare

AND MUSHISHI’S ONE FLUFFING MEASLY HOUR OVA SPECIAL! WHY. NO. NEW SEASON!???!?!
